Product Showcase: Cloud-Based Aviation MRO Software – Now with Easier Access and More Advanced Security

It may surprise you to know that one of the most common passwords today is ‘cheese’. While you’d hope your employees would know better than that, you can never be too careful. Thankfully, we increased the security of the latest release of our cloud-based aviation MRO software to protect you from such risks. Users can also enjoy easier access to the platform. This article discusses these updates and their benefits in more detail.

Why Do Aviation Businesses Need Cloud-Based Aviation MRO Software?

MRO software is designed to optimise every aspect of aircraft maintenance, from routine checks to complex overhauls. It consolidates data and automates key processes, helping organisations manage maintenance operations and ensure regulatory adherence with greater accuracy.

MRO software also helps aircraft operators in the following ways:

  • Reduces downtime by streamlining the planning and execution of maintenance tasks.
  • Provides visibility into the health of assets through detailed analytics and performance monitoring – which is necessary for the implementation of predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Gives users visibility into the real time status of maintenance activities.
  • Increases the efficiency of inventory and materials management.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance by supporting the continuing airworthiness of your fleet, and automatically generating reports and audit trails.
  • Provides a centralised system for managing all commercial activity and financial processes connected to your operations.

Migrating to the cloud has been a key aspect of many organisations’ digital transformation initiatives. Cloud hosted MRO software such as OASES provides maintenance teams with access to critical information from any location, allowing real-time collaboration between on-site technicians, engineers, and management. This reduces errors, improves decision-making, and ultimately ensures that aircraft are maintained to the highest standards of safety and reliability – with minimal disruption to flight schedules.

Key Updates in Release 11: Enhanced Security and Access

The newly released version 11 of OASES introduces some major improvements, as we’ve discussed before. Now, we’ll look at its enhanced security and the more convenient access that users have.

Cyberattacks in Aviation

Cybersecurity is a top priority for aviation companies, given the sensitive nature of aviation maintenance records and other critical data. The consequences of a breach can be severe, potentially costing millions and compromising the safety and compliance of entire fleets.

Data from ICAO reveals the following about cyberattacks in aviation in recent years:

  • There were 775 cyberattacks on airlines and 150 targeting airports in 2020.
  • In the first half of 2023, cyberattacks in the aviation industry increased by 24% globally.
  • There was a 50% increase in the rate of unique malware attacks between October 2022 – January 2023 (2023 Blackberry Global Threat Intelligence Report).

With the increasing frequency of cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure, the need for robust security measures is more important than ever. OASES Release 11 responds to these challenges with its enhanced measures – specifically, multi-factor authentication and SSL/TLS encryption.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

The use of weak passwords is surprisingly common. In fact, towards the top of the list of the top 10 million passwords are the likes of ‘12345’, ‘password’, ‘qwerty’, and ‘111111’. A bit further down, you’ll find ‘batman’, ‘cheese’ and ‘peterpan’.

Research also reveals that 59% of users create passwords containing their name or date of birth, and 43% of users share at least one password with a friend, family member or colleague. To make it worse, only 45% of users said they’d reset their password after a breach. As such, it doesn’t come as a shock that a study by Verizon revealed that 80% of breaches are password related.

MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring users to provide more than just a password. Users must verify their identity through multiple factors, typically something they know (a password), something they have (a one-time code sent to their phone or email), or something they are (biometric verification).

With MFA, unauthorised access becomes significantly more difficult, as attackers would need to compromise multiple authentication factors to gain access to the system.

SSL/TLS Encryption

All data transmitted between the user’s browser and the OASES platform is now protected by SSL/TLS encryption. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) are cryptographic protocols that ensure data remains private and secure while in transit.

As such, sensitive information such as maintenance records, compliance reports, inventory data, and customer data cannot be intercepted or tampered with by malicious actors.

Together, these security measures ensure that aviation companies using OASES can maintain full control over who accesses their data and how it’s transmitted.

Enhanced Access: Full Access from Any Modern Browser

Enhanced-access

Another significant improvement in release 11 is the ability for users to access the full software suite from any modern web browser. This gives maintenance teams more flexibility and improves collaboration, which is especially valuable in a sector with such tight deadlines.

In Closing

Cloud based aircraft maintenance software is a critical tool for organisations aiming to streamline their processes while keeping compliance and safety at the forefront.

OASES release 11 introduces MFA and SSL/TLS encryption, providing enhanced protection against cyber threats and password mishaps, ensuring that sensitive maintenance data remains secure.

In addition, the expanded browser-based access makes it easier than ever for teams to access the full OASES suite from any location, improving flexibility and collaboration.

As the industry continues to face challenges such as increasing operational demands and evolving regulations, the latest version of OASES offers a secure, accessible, and highly efficient solution for managing all aspects of MRO. To learn more or request a demo, contact us today.
